The Energy Crisis - America's Short Attention Span - Updated with DOE Statistics

Why are we in the predicament we're in regarding oil and energy?

Some blame Big Oil, some blame investors and speculators, others Blame Bush (of course), and the smarter folks blame Congress.

Tonight on CNBC they ran a poll asking Americans who they blame for our high oil and gas prices. I was pleasantly surprised to see that many Americans (at least those who watch CNBC) are savvy enough to follow the facts.

We'll get to the poll in a minute...

Before that, let's look back to 2001.

In May 2001 (almost exactly seven years ago to the day) President Bush sent to Congress his energy plan. With Republicans controlling the House and Senate you would think that it would have passed easily. One problem...Democrats in the Senate still had enough votes to filibuster his plan. And then 9/11 happened. The focus shifted away from energy and onto Homeland Security.

The Energy Bill languished in Congress for years. Bush cajoled them to act, but Harry Reid (Daschle's replacement) assumed the mantle of Chief Obstructionist and Bush Defamer.
Here are some of the highlights of the 2001 Energy Bill:
• Executive orders and agency reviews aimed at easing regulations the industry says slow the siting and licensing of power plants and gas refineries.
• A review of the Clinton administration's interpretation of "new source review rules" that the coal industry and refiners say discourage them from making technological and other improvements because they run the risk of tougher environmental rules.
• Opening parts of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas exploration, and encouraging the Interior and other departments to look at opening other federal lands now off-limits to energy exploration. Not the only place where oil and nature co-exist.
• $10 billion over 10 years for tax incentives including hybrid vehicle purchases, methane gas development and solar power cell installation.
• $4 billion for the purchase of new energy-efficient vehicles.
• $1 billion for developing methane gas from landfills, for generating electricity.
• Tax credits of up to $2,000 for installing solar panels on residential homes.
• Several other tax incentives to encourage development and use of alternative fuels like biomass. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said. "Our nation has not had a comprehensive energy policy in years, and that has contributed to the sky-high price of gasoline and energy."

Bush had a plan...what did Congress have? Obstruction.
So, now to the poll:

Who do you Blame for high gas prices:

Bush 17.0% - Here we see the Democrat meme in full throated idiocy - BLAME BUSH!
Big Oil 3.6% - Here we see common sense - Big Oil has nothing to say about the price of oil
Consumers 15% - Understandable - we don't conserve enough and we drive Escalades

Now for the biggies:
Congress 30.0% - Ahhhhh, we do have some intelligent non-sheeple in America
Investors 30.0% - Not as smart, but a small part of the price run-up is speculation

Most analysts agree the high price of gas is truly a "supply and demand" issue. Here are the Department of Energy stats for 2008:
- The entire world will produce 86.599 million barrels of oil each day
- We will collectively burn 86.609 million barrels per day (about 20 million in the US).
- OECD reserves are at 2.54 Billion barrels LINK to DOE

If we had drilled in ANWR as Bush proposed, seven years later we would be pulling about 1.5 million barrels per day out of the ground...enough to create a greater buffer in the global market and to keep prices lower. If we have adopted alternative strategies under Bush's plan we would burn less than the 20 million barrels per day.

Write Congress and tell the Dems they are responsible for these prices. Their obstruction had consequences and you're paying for their short-sightedness. Meanwhile, today they spent $300 Billion more dollars on farm subsidies and welfare programs.

WTF??? Are Americans really so stupid that they'll vote Obama in and give the DumbasCraps even greater control of their lives? Bush had the fix for this seven years ago, but the Left will continue to cause the problem and then blame him for everything they see as eeeeviiiillll.

If the Dems really want to know why we have high gasoline prices, all they have to do is --

Was it yesterday that Obama met with Jews in Florida? In that meeting he tried to convince the Jewish community that he would never cavort with the likes of Hamas or Hezbollah.

Why is it then that Obama met with Imam Hassan Qazwini on May 14, 2008?

Qazwini is a long-time defender of HAMAS and Hezbollah. He is an advocate of Palestinian suicide-bombers. So just one week before telling Florida Jews he would never meet with HAMAS and Hezbollah, Obama met with their "front man" at Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan.

Just Another Obamifecation

There have been many Obamifecations™ unchallenged during the current Democratic Primary, but when Obama tries his "wit and wisdom" on Republicans he is quickly exposed.

The latest argument is about "appeasement" in our time.

Obama publicly declared, on tape, in front of a whole bunch of Democrats, with TV reporters and cameras there, and posted on Youtube that he would unconditionally meet with Mahmoud I'mInItForJihad -- the man who is sponsoring Hezbollah, funding Fluff the Chubby Mullah™, and killing Americans in Iraq by supplying Explosively Formed Projectiles to Shia insurgents.

To which, both Hillary Clinton and John McCain, administered a mighty beeatch slapping.

But here's the tricky part.....An Obama advisor (Susan Rice) stated that John McCain is just spinning. According to Rice, Obama NEVER said he would meet Ahmadinejad without preconditions. <LINK>

Of course not. Why would he do that?

BUT THEEEEEN, while checking Obama's own website I found this:

"Obama is the only major candidate who supports tough, direct presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions."

And, in fact, Obama has been trying to defend meeting with I'maDinnerJacket without preconditions by saying...and here comes the Obamification...that JFK met with Khrushchev in Vienna, and Reagan met with Gorbachev.

There! According to Obama, that proves we should meet with Iran!!!

Uhhhh, Barry...couple of problems there...

1. Khruschev was a man capable of launching a nuclear war against us and was the leader of a Superpower. We had a clear national security reason to meet. Mahmoud is neither and we do not.

2. Khruschev didn't need us to validate his role as a leader of a country. Mahmoud does. The internal opposition in Iran will fold up their proverbial tents the day you meet Mahmoud; immediately reducing the likelihood of democracy taking hold in the country that spawned Carter's Islamic Revolution.

3. Khruschev formulated the plans for the Cuban Missile Crisis during the meeting with Kennedy, believing Kennedy to be a young, inexperienced, and spineless leader. Mahmoud will find the same with you, except you don't even have the 14 years experience in Congress, or ANY of the military experience possessed by Kennedy. Mahmoud will eat your lunch.

4. Reagan told Gorbachev to tear down the wall -- what are you going to say to your bestest buddy Mahmoud?

Undoubtedly DumbasCrap voters will believe your analogy to Kennedy and spew it mindlessly in defense of your Obamifecation. The rest of us see you for the moron you really are...

You are clearly the dumbest man to run for President in the last 40 years.

You've probably heard of Obama's speech in Oregon the other day...you know... the one where he said:

"'We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK,' Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen,' he added." Read it yourself here

This simplistic lecture from a simplistic man hearkens back to the 1970's and the Energy Crisis of President Jimmah Cahtah.

Some of those who lived during that time may mistakenly conflate the 1973 oil embargo with the 1979 energy crisis. The 1973 oil embargo was an OPEC response to the Yom Kippur War and did not cause the long lines at gas stations.

Long lines began after Jimmah placed price controls on oil, allowed the passing of a Windfall Profit Tax against oil companies, and blamed Americans for "worship[ping] self-indulgence and consumption." It was Jimmah that created quotas on Iranian oil after they took Americans as hostages on November 4, 1979.

I joined the military November 29, 1979 hoping to participate in an old-fashioned country ass-whoopin' of Iran. But Carter, being a complete puss, didn't strike, and instead allowed the first modern victory for radical Islam - emboldening the terrorists.

To address our "self-indulgence", Carter told us all to lower our heating thermostats and put on sweaters. He even installed solar panels on the White House and burned dirty, dirty wood in the White House fireplaces (oooo, no carbon offsets for you Jimmah).

Instead of marshaling private industry to address our problems, Carter viewed the GUMMINT as the answer -- and gummint failed, miserably. All of these actions caused oil to rise from $14 a barrel to $35 a barrel in Jimmah's four year term. His approval rating was 25% (lower than Bush).

Now, we have an idiot clone of Jimmy Carter, blaming America first, wanting to tax oil companies, wanting to add more regulation into the market -- exactly how does Obama think this will turn out?
And therein lies the problem - either Obama doesn't think at all or he is too stupid to understand the path he is walking. The expansion of the gummint's role in energy policy has been tried before. Get ready for the Days of Malaise - Part Deux (but at least the rest of the world will like us, Barak -- after all, misery loves company.)

As much as I believe Ted Kennedy is part of a coalition that has brought evil to America, I still must wish him well in his recovery.

As the General Election draws closer and the Democrats are (finally) getting close to having a candidate, this blog is intending to Change the Conversation.

GRADUATION

My son recently graduated from Northern Arizona University and is now an Electrical Engineer with General Dynamics.

He will earn the same compensation in his first year that I earned in my 25th year of enlisted service in the mighty, mighty Air Force.
We moved him in to his apartment over the weekend, so now he is a man making his own way in the world.


Daughter #1 is finishing her second year as a double major in Cellular Molecular Biology and Psychology at the University of Arizona.

Daughter #2, the 9-year-old, is still in the "pain in the ass" stage of life, but...

My kids make me very proud.

They must have inherited more of my wife's genes...I'll have to ask Daughter #1 if that is possible.

The Libs Lose Another Election

The Lame Stream Media played it as a loss for the GOP, but for conservatives, it was another victory following the 2006 take over by the Democrats.

Here's the headline:

On Tuesday, Travis Childers (a Democrat) beat Greg Davis (a Republican) in an area that George Bush won by 25 percentage points. That's Childers to the right. (Yes, you're right, he does look like a used car salesman with a cleft palette, but he's got a good heart.)

This seems awfully bad for the Republicans, but I see it as a positive. Ya' see, I've always been conservative FIRST, a Republican by default. And Childers is another link in an ever lengthening chain of conservative Democrats being elected to Congress. Childers is Pro-Gun and Pro-Life...hmmmm.

Even the Lefties have been all atwitter over this development...which you can read HERE, HERE and HERE.

In 2006 and beyond, all of the major shifts toward Democrats have involved Democrats running as conservatives.

What this all boils down to is this:

DEMOCRATS KNOW THEY CAN'T WIN AS LIBERALS
Conservatism triumphs again!

For the upcoming elections we must prevent liberal Democrats from pretending to be conservative simply to ride this wave. Expose them if they do, and then elect conservatives whether they have a "D" or an "R" next to their name.

Life

Recently one of my colleagues was "let go" from our workplace.

We used to have spirited discussions on politics and life.

Now that is gone. I'll definitely get more work done, but will miss the conversations.

Wright's wife, Ramah, used to be Ramah Reed.

Delmer Reed, 59, confided to pals that he believed the minister moved in on his wife while Wright was counseling the couple at his Chicago church in the early 1980s, The Post has learned.

"That's exactly how he said it," Reed's divorce lawyer, Roosevelt Thomas, told The Post.

"It looks like Delmer might have been right," he said, because after Delmer and Ramah Reed were divorced, she got remarried - to Wright. "Either that or this was the biggest coincidence in the world."

Reed was asked if Wright stole his wife. Reed declined to speak ill of Wright, stating he had promised his children that he would not say anything to hurt their stepfather....
