The Federalist Papers outline the thoughts of the founders on balancing the need for new ideas in government against the need for consistency in laws. The Senate is the body that provides this balance.
Senate terms of 6 years ensure that laws aren't arbitrarily rewritten every two years. However, this need for consistency was not meant that we keep the same folks in office for multiple consecutive terms. There is still a need for fresh blood.
I believe Senators should be limited to four terms -- that's 24 years, plenty of time sucking the government teat and living like Kings. It is much too easy to think you are someone above the people when you euphemistically "serve" for such a long time ...and here's proof:
- This list shows the names of Senators and the year they were elected to the Senate.
- *Since power corrupts, I thought I would also list the fruits of political corruption. In parenthesis is the amount of money DEMOCRATS took from Jack Abramoff's activities - the biggest "REPUBLICAN" ethical scandal in recent history (according to the Moonbats):
1959 Robert C. Byrd, (D-WV) - Babbling old dunderhead - "Can you HEAR me?" (Even Abramoff didn't give money to this useless old turd).
1962 Edward M. Kennedy, (D-MA) - Can you spell "N-E-G-L-I-G-E-N-T...H-O-M-I-C-I-D-E"? No, okay, how about Drunken Fat Bastard? ($3,300* in Abramoff money)
1963 Daniel K. Inouye, (D-HI) - Too old to get that "technology" thing. Check his website. ($9,000*)
1968 Ted Stevens, (R-AK) - A republican Perfumed Prince responsible for the "Bridge to Nowhere". Aided in Republicans losing the 2006 election.
1973 Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) - The hair-plugged, tooth-capped, plagiarist of Neil Kinnock who has such an exaggerated sense of self-worth he actually ran for President twice....BWAHAHA (and his middle name is "Robinette".) ($1,250*)
1975 Patrick Leahy, (D-VT) - AKA "Leaky Leahy" . This codger lacks the common sense God gave a screwdriver. His repeated leaks of classified information have made this country less safe (doesn't he accuse Bush of that) and cost the life of at least one intelligence asset. One day in the Senate chambers he learned that Dick Cheney does not suffer fools well when the Veep told him to "go F*CK yourself" -- right on, Dick! ($4,000*)
1977 Richard G. Lugar, (R-IN) - The latest vacillator who sees the next election coming soon. So, what does he do? He flip-flops on supporting the troops. Hmmm, a political career or troops in the field, what is more important to Lugar? Does he look like Droopy to you too?
1977Orrin G. Hatch, (R-UT) -- He's one of the few generally good guys and would be missed. But, don't worry, he'll have plenty of Senate Retirement money coming.
1978 Max Baucus, (D-MT) - Who? What has he done? (Though he did receive $22,500 in money linked to Jack Abramoff. But remember the Left will tell you it was only Republicans who were involved.)
1978 Thad Cochran, (R-MS) -- Again, who? If you can't make a name for yourself in 29 years, try something else.
1979 John W. Warner, (R-VA) -- "Lugar- esque" in his view of fighting terrorism. As long as it doesn't threaten his re-election, he'll fight the terrorists. He's one of the main reasons housing terrorists at GITMO is being questioned.
1979 Carl M. Levin, (D-MI) - In 1998 and 2002 he was sure Saddam had WMDs. In fact, on Sept 19, 2002 he said "(Saddam Hussein) has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them." Wasn't Bill Clinton the President in 1998? Did he lie to you too, poor old, tired Carl? ($6,000*)
1981 Christopher J. Dodd, (D-CT) - He of the ill-fitted dentures must believe he is the reincarnation of Washington. But Washington never made a "waitress sandwich" with Fat Bastard (see Kennedy) while their dates were in the restroom. ($14,792*)
1981 Charles E. Grassley, (R-IA) - Another good guy who will be missed, but sometimes you DO have to throw out the baby with the (filthy, fetid) bathwater.
1981 Arlen Specter, (R-PA) - Is he really a Republican? Nah, he's definitely a RINO. Since he can't really decide which party he wants to support, let him think about it while he's out of office.
1983 Jeff Bingaman, (D-NM) - He only took $2,000 of Abramoff linked money. Good for you, but you've still been here too long.
That covers the last 24 years. If we implement a 4-term limit, who gets put out on the street next:
1985 - John F. Kerry, (D-MA) ($98,000*) and Tom Harkin, (D-IA) ($45,750*)
Need I say more?
And while we're looking at corruption, let's look at some other Dems who are not yet eligible for my 24-year term limit:
What about the sterling, squeaky clean Mr Harry "Land Grab" Reid? Seems Harry received over $68,000 from Abramoff linked funds. Here's one article that outlines that $68,000 payday for "Nuts".
A total of 39 current Democrat Senators received money through Jack Abramoff. Want more?
Hillary: $12,950
Obama: $7,500
Chucky Schumer: $29,550
What does it say about a state that continues to re-elect the same idiots back to Congress. Is the intellectual reservoir of these states so low that they feel there is no one who can do a better job?
Massachusetts...I'm writing this for you.
